According to an article in the Tampa Bay Times, Lowe’s will not build a planned store in Tarpon Springs, Fla.

The Mooresville, N.C.-based retailer reportedly invested some $3 million in the project, which was four years in the making, but decided the project wasn’t in the company’s best interest. 

Marking the one-year anniversary of the April 16 tornado that destroyed the retailers Sanford, N.C., store, Lowe’s today launched a “Give Back. Pay it Forward” event with American Red Cross.

From April 13-17, Lowe’s has set up collection areas in Sanford and online so people can donate to the relief organization. The American Red Cross will also host a blood drive on April 16 at the store.

Michigan police recovered a lawn tractor allegedly stolen from Lowe’s after one of the suspects was discovered riding the vehicle at three o’clock in the morning, according to an article in the Grand Haven Tribune.

Massachusetts-based lighting company Osram Sylvania announced that it would be expanding it’s lineup of LED light bulbs. This month, Lowe’s will start stocking the seven new bulbs.

Among the company’s new LED bulb offerings are the ones meant to replace 40- and 60-watt incandescent bulbs. The 60-watt LED bulb puts out the same amount of light as a 60-watt incandescent with 8.5 watts of electricity.

Lowe's has decided to end its advertising campaign on the TLC show "All-American Muslim" after protests from Florida Family Association, a conservative Christian group, which posted this statement to its website:

“TLC’s ‘All-American Muslim’ is propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda’s clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.”

Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's has named Michael McDermott to the high-profile position of chief merchandising officer.

McDermott replaces Michael Jones, who is transitioninig into the role of COO on April 30, supervising McDermott. He will be responsible for the merchandising operations of Lowe's U.S. business, as well as all global sourcing activities. He has been with the company since 2013 as SVP general merchandising. He has over 20 years of experience in the field, with previous stints at General Electric.

A brand of wall-to-wall carpet sold exclusively at Lowe's is being recalled due to its failure to meet flammability standards.

The carpet, manufactured by Shaw Industries, goes by the Aristocrat II brand and has a style number of 7L514. The product in question was only sold in a "Pale Clay" color and was sold at Lowe's stores across the country between June and September 2013, costing about $1 per square foot.

No injuries or incidents were reported.

The Lowe's brand Kobalt announced the addition of 18-volt and corded power tools to its line. 

The new line of cordless tools also ensure that power will never be a problem for users, as all Kobalt 18V tools are compatible with both Kobalt lithium-ion, as well as nickel cadmium (NiCd) batteries.
