  • Lowe's meets demand with seasonal hires

    Lowe’s is gearing up for increased demand this spring, by hiring approximately 45,000 seasonal employees at its stores in the United States. The company will also add 9,000 permanent part-time employees.

    Seasonal jobs available are focused on customer support and include cashiers, lawn and garden specialists, loaders, and stockers. The number of hours worked per week will vary based on the needs of individual stores, but, on average, seasonal employees could work an estimated 20 to 25 hours per week.

  • For Lowe’s in New York, the cost of opposition

    In New York, Long Island Business News reported that Lowe’s took a bath on a real estate deal involving a proposed Long Island store.

    According to the newspaper, the Mooresville, N.C.-based home center giant paid some $26 million for a piece of property formerly owned by Pall Corp. But it decided to sell when community opposition prevented a zoning change. According to the paper, Lowe’s recently sold it to St. Francis Hospital for about $16 million.

  • Lawn and garden paces Lowe’s in strong quarter

    Lowe’s generated positive comp-store sales in all of its product categories in the second quarter. And even as it faced a strong comparison to the prior-year’s quarter, lawn and garden led the way.

    Those were among the insights provided by Lowe’s executives during their second-quarter earnings report, in which the Mooresville, North Carolina-based company reported sales and earnings growth.
