  • Lowe’s to carry expanded line of Osram Sylvania LEDs

    Massachusetts-based lighting company Osram Sylvania announced that it would be expanding it’s lineup of LED light bulbs. This month, Lowe’s will start stocking the seven new bulbs.

    Among the company’s new LED bulb offerings are the ones meant to replace 40- and 60-watt incandescent bulbs. The 60-watt LED bulb puts out the same amount of light as a 60-watt incandescent with 8.5 watts of electricity.

  • Lowe’s pulls ad from Muslim reality show, faces backlash

    Lowe's has decided to end its advertising campaign on the TLC show "All-American Muslim" after protests from Florida Family Association, a conservative Christian group, which posted this statement to its website:

    “TLC’s ‘All-American Muslim’ is propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda’s clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.”

  • Lowe's fills CMO seat with McDermott

    Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's has named Michael McDermott to the high-profile position of chief merchandising officer.

    McDermott replaces Michael Jones, who is transitioninig into the role of COO on April 30, supervising McDermott. He will be responsible for the merchandising operations of Lowe's U.S. business, as well as all global sourcing activities. He has been with the company since 2013 as SVP general merchandising. He has over 20 years of experience in the field, with previous stints at General Electric.

  • Lowe's announces partnership with Porch.com

    Lowe's has announced a strategic partnership with Porch.com, a home improvement network that connects homeowners with over 1.5 million professionals.

    The partnership aims to expand Lowe's service capabilities by connecting customers with home improvement pros for nearly any project outside of what Lowe's currently offers as part of its installation services. 

  • Lowe's announces 20 store closings

    Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's said today it is closing 20 underperforming stores in 15 states and slowing down its rate of new-store development. Ten locations have already shuttered, while the remaining 10 will be closed in about a month, after closing sales.

    Lowe's has announced a restructuring in both in-store operations and merchandising organizations that will thin the ranks of its management and consolidate both its regions and divisions.

    Lowe's merchants have been reorganized into two product divisions, each led by a senior VP/general merchandising manager. Both will report to executive VP merchandising Robert Gfeller Jr.

    An article in the Edmonton Journal reports Lowe's officials sawed a board to launch the retail company's first Edmonton-area store, which will open to the public Monday.
