The country's second largest home center chain posted sales of $12.2 billion in its first quarter ended April 29. That's down 1.6% as the one-two punch of bad weather and the weak economy took its toll.

The company's earnings also declined -- down 5.7% to $461 million. Comparable-store sales were down 3.3%.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two men suspected of stealing six Husqvarna chain saws at a Lowe’s store in Springfield, Mass., according to a report on WGGB-TV, an ABC affiliate.

On May 21, the individuals allegedly placed the items, valued at $766 each, in a store cart and wheeled it out the front door. 

Congratulatory phone calls from the president of the United States are usually reserved for the likes of World Series pitchers or Nobel Prize winners. But Lowe’s store manager Michael Hollowell received his call the day after he and his team herded about 70 customers away from the vulnerable front-end of his Sanford, N.C., store, moments before it was ripped apart by a tornado.


Preparing for its busy season, Lowe’s Canada will fill 2,800 positions during the first half of 2017.

Lowe’s will be adding 275 jobs to its call center in Wilkesboro, N.C., according to an article in The Business Journal of Greensboro/Winston-Salem.

The company plans for the new hires to help customers who require assistance with online purchases or service on appliances and outdoor power equipment.

A man already convicted of forgery and grand larceny in New York State is also facing a federal indictment that accuses him of gift card scams at Home Depot and Lowe’s totaling $78,800, according to an article in the Buffalo News.

Menards is attempting to convert one of its old stores in Sheboygan, Wis., into a self-storage facility, according to an article in the Sheboygan Press.
