  • Lowe’s and Sherwin-Williams shake the paint aisle

    The coating competition will heat up in March as Lowe’s rolls out HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams.

    The HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams product line will feature what both companies describe as “a new and improved interior and exterior paint program.” The line will be available at both Sherwin-Williams' company stores and Lowe's stores nationwide, as well as exclusive line extensions available at Lowe's. 

  • Menards opens first store in Kentucky

    One year ago it was just a set of blueprints, but Menards first location in Kentucky -- a megastore measuring more than 200,000 sq. ft. -- opened on May 1 in Owensboro, Ky., according to an article in the Messenger Inquirer.

    Menards will be the first store to operate in the 67-acre Heartland Crossing shopping center. Designs for that $45 million development feature building pads for restaurants, banks, offices and a hotel.

  • Crown Bolt comes back to Home Depot

    HD Supply and The Home Depot today announced they have entered into an agreement for The Home Depot to purchase substantially all of the assets of HD Supply Hardware Solutions, formerly known as Crown Bolt, a leading supplier of fasteners and builders hardware to retailers in the United States. 

    Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close by the end of fiscal year 2014 subject to obtaining customary regulatory approvals.

  • Depot plans early Black Friday for pros

    Home Depot’s efforts to court loyalty among its pro customers now includes a special Black Friday showcase.

    The Atlanta-based retailer will showcase its pre-Black Friday savings for Pro customers at Pro Appreciation Events Nov. 20 at all U.S. stores. The company says pros will have access to exclusive pre-Black Friday savings on products from brands including DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, RIDGID and Porter-Cable.

    The event is part of a quarterly commitment by the retailer to honor its Pro customers, which make up 40% of its business.

  • Niblock elaborates on Orchard strategy

    Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's CEO Robert Niblock added some color to the company's plans to acquire 72 Orchard Supply Hardware stores. 

    Earlier this week, the federal antitrust review and bankruptcy court approved Lowe's $205 million bid. In comments to investors Wednesday, Niblock said he expected the deal to close at the end of August.
