  • Trex honored for 'greenest' decking

  • Lighting options expand at Lowe's

    Lowe’s has added two new brands to its bulb assortment, one a new manufacturer in the LED residential market and the other utilizing a new lighting technology.

    Samsung Electronics will release its first LED lighting solutions for the U.S. consumer market through Lowes.com and at select Lowe's home improvement retail stores nationwide. The bulbs include A19, PAR20/30/38 and MR16 bulbs -- all designed to replace traditional incandescent, halogen and CFL bulbs throughout the home.

  • Wood -- all wood -- promoted as green by USDA

    Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, officially launching the International Year of the Forests on March 30, announced the USDA's strategy to promote the use of wood as a green building material.

    "Wood has a vital role to play in meeting the growing demand for green building materials. Forest Service studies show that wood compares favorably with competing materials," said Vilsack, who laid out a three-part plan to address current green building practices. These strategies will include:

    EnduraMax,a high-performance wall system by Oldcastle Architectural, is a sponsor of the Green Schoolhouse Series project, an effort to construct green schoolhouses across the country.

    The first Green Schoolhouse Series project is a 6,000-square-foot school in Phoenix, Ariz. It serves as the launching pad for state-of-the-art green schoolhouses across the country on Title 1, low-income, public school campuses.

    Canadian Solar Inc. will partner with privately held roofing company PetersenDean on a new roofing program. PetersenDean has launched a solar division and will promote the new roofing program.

    Charleston, S.C.-based AM Conservation Group, a manufacturer and distributor of energy and water conservation products, will roll out its new product line called Simply Conserve, introducing the first-ever cohesive line of both energy- and water-saving products for the home to consumers nationwide.
