Trex honored for 'greenest' decking

Trex Co. was recently honored in the decking products category of Green Builder Media's 2013 Reader's Choice Awards. More than 40% of readers who voted selected Trex decking as the "greenest" in the industry.

"Being recognized as the decking industry's 'green' leader once again this year reaffirms our ongoing commitment to set the standard for eco-friendly outdoor living products," said Ronald Kaplan , chairman, president and CEO of Trex.  "Respect for the environment is a way of life at Trex, and we feel a responsibility to manufacture products that both help to preserve the outdoors -- and make them more enjoyable."

The Trex decking portfolio, which includes Trex Transcend, Trex Enhance and Trex Select, is manufactured from more than 95% recycled content. The company's manufacturing process uses a proprietary processing method that eliminates smokestacks and factory refuse that is recycled back into the manufacturing line. 

In addition, the company salvages and keeps more than 400 million pounds of plastic and wood scrap out of landfills each year.
