Kodiak Building Partners has acquired Sun Mountain Custom Doors.

Sun Mountain produces high-end solid core wood doors that are custom and made-to-order at their northern Colorado facility. Based in Berthoud, Colo. and founded in 1998, Sun Mountain operates nine locations.

The company’s production process merges Old World craftsmanship with modern woodworking technology, with the unique ability to supply high-quality custom products to a nationwide market, Kodiak said.

Factory pre-finishing is a hallmark of the company, providing doors, which are ready to install with no on-site painting.

“The handcrafted and beautiful doors from Sun Mountain are desired by custom luxury builders across the country,” said Steve Swinney, CEO of Kodiak Building Partners. “No one else in the United States is producing such a high-quality door. We look forward to helping them expand their capacity and sales even further.”

Ed Wright, president of Sun Mountain, will remain with the company along with his team. The company has 130 employees.

Wright joined Sun Mountain as chief financial officer in 2006 and was promoted to general manager in 2013. Sun Mountain and its senior management team achieved revenue growth in 9 of the next 10 years.

Growth was achieved through expansion of the company’s direct distribution model, nationwide marketing, capacity expansion, and development of the company’s organization in all functional areas, Sun Mountain said.

Sun Mountain Custom Doors manufactures its products at its Berthoud facility and showcases them in eight design centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Utah.

“We feel like the U.S. map is wide open to us, as is the appetite to buy American-made,” Wright said. “Our direct ship model and high-quality pre-finished product works for us, and builders, architects, interior designers, and homeowners who love our products.”

Porter Wiley with FMI Capital Advisors, Inc. was the exclusive advisor to Sun Mountain.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kodiak Building Partners serves general contractors, home builders, subcontractors, remodelers, and consumers through 103 locations in more than 20 states.

Earlier this month, Kodiak acquired Miller Lumber Company with locations in Bend and Redmond, Ore.
