    Lowe's came away with some of the highest honors in environmental stewardship from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

    The retailer was recognized for its freight transportation practices and water-efficient products campaign with a 2013 SmartWay Excellence Award and a 2013 WaterSense Sustained Excellence Award.

  • Rebuffed by RONA, Lowe’s withdraws offer

    Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe’s pulled the plug on its proposal to acquire the Canadian retailer and distributor RONA. 

    The proposal, dated July 8, would have had Lowe’s acquire Boucherville, Quebec-based RONA for C$14.50 per share. 

    While announcing its withdrawal of the offer, Lowe’s continued to promote the idea of a combined Lowe’s and RONA as one that makes business sense and would create significant value for all stakeholders.”

  • Sears Canada responds to McDonald's resignation

    Sears Canada spokesperson Vincent Power has responded to HCN's request for comment over the departure of CEO Calvin McDonald, who sources say left over a disagreement with Sears Holding Corp. as well as disappointment with the struggling retailer's progress.

  • Lowe's pledges $4 million for education initiatives

    Lowe's has announced that for the 2011 to 2012 school year, it will donate more than $4 million to support education. 

    Through its Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, the company is providing funds for school systems across America through Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grants, Teach for America, Project L.I.F.T., Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Lowe’s Scholarships and Carl Buchan Scholarships. 

  • Menards buys Ohio shopping center for $5.4 million

    It’s official: Menards will open a new store in Miami Township, Ohio, after demolishing a shopping center it purchased on Aug. 24 for $5.36 million.
