Menards buys Ohio shopping center for $5.4 million

It’s official: Menards will open a new store in Miami Township, Ohio, after demolishing a shopping center it purchased on Aug. 24 for $5.36 million. 

According to the Dayton Business Journal, the 201,000-sq.-ft. plaza, called Lyons Crossing, was anchored by Walmart before the discount merchant moved to another location. The remaining stores will be torn down to make way for the construction of a $9 million Menards store.

Township administrator Greg Hanahan told the newspaper that the township’s work with Menards is “full speed ahead.” The Menards property will be brought into the township’s existing joint economic development district as part of the plans.

Based in Eau Claire, Wis., Menards operates more than 250 home improvement stores in 12 states, including two locations in the Dayton area, in Tipp City and Sidney. Both existing Dayton-area stores occupy at least 200,000 sq. ft. of space. The closest Menards to Miami Township is in Hamilton.
