  • Currey & Company recalls chandeliers

    Currey & Company of Chico, Calif., announced a recall of 10 models of its chandeliers.

    Defective wiring can conduct electricity to the Chinese-made chandeliers' metal parts, posing an electric shock hazard to consumers, according to a release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

  • S&P/Case-Shiller Index shows housing recovery

    A widely watched measure of U.S. home prices showed average home prices increased significantly.

    The S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices released Tuesday morning shows a 7.3% increase for the 10-City Composite and an 8.1% increase for the 20-City Composite in the 12 months ended in January 2013. 

    Phoenix appears to be leading the charge, with a 23.2% year-over-year increase. 

  • Kraus Canada appoints new president & general manager

    Shawn Davies is leaving his post as VP of Sofina Foods to join Kraus Canada as its president and general manager, effective Sept. 23. 

    "Today is an exciting day in the history of Kraus," said Steve Malinowski, president and CEO of the Kraus Group of Companies. "I am pleased that Shawn will be joining the leadership team at Kraus."

    The company cited Davies' track record of substantial sales growth, strategic acquisitions and boosting profitability, among other successes.

    Walmart recognized Central Garden & Pet Co. as the retailer's Outdoor Living Supplier of the Year. In addition, Central won the People Award for Walmart’s Home Division.

    Wilmington, Ohio-based TimberTech unveiled an interactive online resource for homeowners and pros in search of deck answers. 

    TimberTech is unveiling an interactive Q&A platform called “Straight Talk.” The new tool can be accessed at TimberTech.com/StraightTalk and answers deck questions from pros and consumers, the company said. 

  • Sales decline at Central Garden & Pet

    Central Garden & Pet anticipated lower quarterly results, and it got them.

    The Walnut Creek, Calif.-based marketer and producer of branded products for the lawn and garden and pet supplies markets reported net sales of $494.1 million in the third quarter ended June 29, down 7% from the same quarter last year.

    Net income was $13.7 million, down from $22.7 million in the same quarter last year. 

  • P&F Industries ramps up growth in Q2

    P&F Industries, Inc. reported robust second quarter earnings, primarily due to a strong Tools segment and the recent entry of its Florida Pneumatic subsidiary into The Home Depot market.

    Net revenue came in at $19.48 million for the quarter, a big jump up from year-ago figures of $15.24 million. Net income was $875,000, compared to last year's $796,000.
