  • EPA to review more chemicals in home improvement products

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced it is taking a closer look at new uses of glymes, chemicals used in a wide array of consumer products that include paints and coatings, adhesives and household batteries, as well as printing ink and motor vehicle brake systems. 

  • More solar panels slated for IKEA stores

    IKEA plans to install solar PV systems on six more of its locations in the Eastern United States, the company announced.

    The installations are expected to begin in late spring with completion later this fall, provided the projects receive governmental permits.

    The company recently plugged in a solar project in Colorado.

  • Wilsonart hires environmental health and safety director

    Flooring manufacturer Wilsonart North America has announced the appointment of Kevin Sweeny as the new director of environmental health and safety.

    In his new role, Sweeney will focus on developing streamlined policies and procedures that ensure environmental and safety performance, generate cost savings and promote sustainable business practices. 

  • EPA fines manufacturer for 'unproven claims'

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has fined Monterey Park, Calif.-based Kinetic Solutions Inc. -- doing business as Rabbit Air -- $82,400 for allegedly selling unregistered and misbranded pesticides and making unproven claims about their effectiveness.

  • Scotts' president to leave the company

    Barry Sanders, president and COO, will be departing the company as of Jan. 31 in what Scotts described as "an ongoing effort focused on de-layering the company to improve operational efficiency and speed to market."

  • Bill would reform EPA Lead Rule

    The Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting (LRRP) Rule is the subject of a bill in the House.

    Congressman Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) and 21 co-sponsors introduced a bill in the House of Representatives that was crafted to reduce the burden of the regulation.

  • Verilux enters LED bulb market

    Verilux has introduced a new collection of LED bulbs designed to look like the “traditional Edison bulb.” The line of 26 bulbs is designed without the large heat sink found on most other LED bulbs on the market today, according to the Waitsfield, Vt., manufacturer.
