Throwback Thursday: Thanksgiving edition
It’s not every earnings call when the CEO of a giant company spends a few moments remembering the famous founder of his number one rival.
But that’s exactly what happened during Lowe’s third quarter call.
Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison began the Nov. 19 conference by first offering his sympathies to the family of Bernie Marcus, who had passed away on Nov. 4.
Marcus, of course, is the co-founder of Home Depot, along with Arthur Blank, Ken Langone and Pat Farrah. Marcus was also a mentor of Ellison, who spent 12 years in senior-level operations roles with The Home Depot, including serving as its executive vice president of U.S. stores from 2008 to 2014.
“Bernie provided me with a lot of coaching, wisdom, and advice during my early years in home improvement,” Ellison continued. “He was a true original in every sense of the word. And because of his generosity and philanthropy, he leaves a legacy far beyond the home improvement industry. From me personally and from all of us at Lowe's, our thoughts and our prayers go out to his family and to his loved ones.”
