  • Kent promotes hardware store cycling

    Parsippany, N.J.-based bicycle manufacturer Kent International sees momentum in bike sales in the hardware channel. The company now has six styles stocked in Orgill's distribution system.

    In addition to Mintcraft brand men's and women's steel frame and aluminum frame cruisers, Kent has men's and women's Giordano fitness cruisers in the warehouse, ready for shipment, said Kent's Ron Lippner, VP sales.

  • Trex adopts Link Chain LIFO accounting

    Winchester, Va.-based Trex Co, announced a change in its accounting for inventories from a specific goods last in, first out (LIFO) approach to a Link Chain LIFO method.

  • In Houston, a Handy Hardware homecoming

    Houston-based co-op Handy Hardware Wholesale opens its 50th Anniversary Spring Market today in Houston. The event runs through Feb. 5.

    Handy’s market floor will open at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and will close at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5.  Market incentives will be enhanced as five market attendees will have the opportunity to draw for up to $50,000 in cash at the close of the market. Following the market close, the member-owned distributor will continue the celebration with a private concert by Sony BMG recording artist Kellie Pickler.

  • Revenues up, income down at Ace

    Ace Hardware Corp. reported total revenues of $859.3 million for the fourth quarter, a 7.4% increase over revenues of $800.3 million for the same quarter in 2009. Net income was $20.6 million for the fourth quarter of 2010, compared with $12.4 million in 2009, a 65.1% increase.

    For the full year, total revenues were $3.5 billion, a 2.1% increase over fiscal 2009. Net income was $75.1 million for fiscal 2010, compared with $95.7 million in fiscal 2009, a 21.5% decrease.  

  • Ink-O-Dem partners with Chicagoland Ace stores

    Some 30 Ace Hardware stores in the Chicago region are the latest retail outlets to offer ink cartridge refill services through a company called Ink-O-Dem.

    Ink-O-Dem's ink cartridge refilling service is operating at about 4,500 Walgreens stores in the United States. In and around Chicago, the service is operating in retailers including two Micro Center stores in Chicago and Westmont, Fry's Electronics in Downers Grove, and hundreds of Walgreens, the company said.

    The Community Action Partnership has announced that 84 Lumber will sponsor its annual National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award, which recognizes outstanding efforts promoting community development as a core strategy to increase economic security and reduce poverty.
