Home Depot and Lowe’s, state by state
At the end of fiscal 2022, Home Depot’s footprint stretched to 2,140 locations. But not counting stores in Canada (182), Mexico (133) and overseas U.S. territories (13), there are 1,994 Home Depot stores in the United States – including one in Washington, D.C.
Lowe’s has a simpler geographic story. The company, as of Feb. 3, 2023, operated 1,738 stores in the 50 U.S. states and D.C.

In addition to the highlights above, the exercise revealed the following interesting statistics.
• In 29 states, Home Depot locations outnumber Lowe’s locations. In 20 states, Lowe’s locations outnumber Home Depot locations.
• Maine and Washington, D.C., both have an equal number of Home Depot stores and Lowe’s stores. Maine has 11 of each, and the nation’s capital has one of each.
• Pennsylvania and Ohio have the exact same number of Home Depot stores and Lowe’s stores. Pennsylvania has 83 Lowe’s stores, and 70 Home Depot stores. Ohio has the exact same numbers: 83 LOW, and 70 HD.
• Home Depot’s U.S. stores not included on the map above are located in Puerto Rico (10), the U.S. Virgin Islands (2), and Guam (1.)
