Hammond Lumber Company announced that it has been recognized as one of the 2022 Best Places to Work in Maine

This statewide survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Maine, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce, and businesses.

“We would like to congratulate and thank the Hammond Team for your achievement of this award for the second year in a row,” said Mike Hammond, president and CEO of Hammond Lumber Company. “As Hammond Lumber Company continues to grow with now 875 employees across 22 locations, our employees’ dedication and daily commitment is what continues to make us one of the ‘best places to work’.”

The CEO noted that the Hammond team consists of employees who consistently provide exceptional customer service, demonstrate remarkable teamwork, and serve our communities daily. “We are honored to receive this award again and proud of our employees who have helped us reach this achievement.”

Hammond Lumber was also recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Maine in 2021.

Based in Belgrade, Maine, Hammond has been a family-owned and operated company since 1953. Today, Hammond is a fourth-generation, family-owned business with 875 employees and 22 locations across Maine and New Hampshire.

The 2022 Best Places to Work in Maine list is made up of 100 companies in three size categories: 34 small winners (15-49 U.S. employees), 45 medium winners (50-249 U.S. employees) and 21 large winners (250+ U.S. employees). Hammond is one of the 21 winners in the large employer category.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Maine. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation.

The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings.

Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Maine and analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.

Hammond Lumber Company will be recognized in the October 17th edition of Mainebiz magazine where the full rankings will be revealed.

The Best Places to Work in Maine awards program is a project of the Society for Human Resource Management – Maine State Council (MESHRM) and Best Companies

Group. Partners endorsing the program include Mainebiz, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and the Maine HR Convention.

Hammond Lumber expanded in June when it acquired Brock’s Building Materials, a third-generation, family-owned company located in Rochester, N.H.

Fellow Maine-based dealer Hancock Lumber has also garnered the Best Places to Work in Maine award for eight years in a row.
