  • True Value updates its paint offering

    New paint in new packaging is in the works at True Value Co., as its interior and exterior paint lines get a makeover.
  • Venhuizen promoted at Ace Hardware

    Ace Hardware appointed John Venhuizen chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1, 2012.

    Venhuizen has spent nearly two decades with Ace and most recently served as executive VP supply chain, information technology (IT) and international. In this position, he helped grow the number of Ace stores around the world, as well as create a variety of successful support and incentive programs for retailers.

  • Big weekend for paint at Ace

    A buy-one-get-one deal described as the co-op’s most aggressive promotion ever is bolstering the Oak Brook, Illinois-based co-op’s grand opening of The Paint Studio in some 3,200 stores. 

    On Saturday and Sunday (May 17 and 18), consumers can get a second gallon for free of either Clark+Kensington or Valspar Optimus.

  • Ace chalks up energy savings to its supply chain

    Ace Hardware is celebrating the milestones it has reached within its supply chain in the aim of reducing its carbon footprint this Earth Day.

    Specifically, two Ace Hardware Retail Support facilities are being recognized for their participation in zero landfill initiatives, which see to it that a product is reused instead of being sent to a landfill or incinerator. The Ace Hardware Import Redestribution Center in Suffolk, Va. has been enjoying zero landfill status for over a year, and the counterpart facility in Kent, Wash. is 95% of the way there.

  • Bedford True Value Hardware honored

    Adam Schoelkopf of Bedford True Value Hardware in Bedford, N.Y., recently accepted a True Value Best Hardware Store in Town award on behalf of the store.

    A total of 13 stores were recognized by the co-op during its Spring & Rental Reunion held in Atlanta. 

    “These are talented business people who work incredibly hard to bring their communities the best service and shopping experiences possible,” said True Value president and CEO John Hartmann. 

  • Five forces shaping power tools

    As founder of the home channel’s leading Internet retailer of power tools, Don Cohen of ToolKing.com has as good a perspective as any on the trends shaping the power tools market.

    His observation: “Faster, smaller, cheaper, better — that’s where products are going,” Cohen said. “There are more technology-enhanced products that are better looking, and better working, than ever before.”

  • Ace Hardware clarifies deal with Sears Brands

    Speaking to Ace Hardware dealers at the co-op's 2011 Fall Convention & Exhibits in Denver, Ace's John Surane clarified Ace's agreement with Sears regarding Craftsman and exclusivity.

    "Our agreement gives Ace the exclusive rights to sell the craftsman brand in the convenience hardware channel until the year 2015," Surane told dealers during the General Session in Denver. He added the deal does not prohibit Sears, which owns the Craftsman brand, from selling to big-box retailers or the mass merchants.
