  • Stanley to buy Swedish security firm

    Stanley Black & Decker has agreed to buy Niscayah, a European electronic security and monitoring company for $1.2 billion, including assumed debt. Stanley will pay $18.00 per share in cash (in Swedish currency) for the Stockholm-based company, 24% more than an all-stock offer by another firm, Securitas AB, and a 15% premium to Niscayah's stock price at close on June 23, 2011.

    Gas prices were climbing slowly but steadily in 2011, but this week the national average price per gallon of regular surged 18 cents to $3.35. That's 65 cents higher than a year ago.

    Elsewhere on the Industry Dashboard, the Existing-Home Sales meter shows gains for the year and the month, based on estimates from the National Association of Realtors. Single-family starts are lagging at a dismal pace of 413,000.

  • Stanley execs address Japanese supply chain

     

    Nearly two months since the tragic Japanese earthquake and tsunami, the issue of power-tool supply-chain was raised during a Stanley Black & Decker conference call.

    Stanley President and CEO John Lundgren said to the extent that there may be difficulties getting product from Japan, they would appear in the second quarter. 

  • Delta Power Equipment buys Delta from Stanley

    Delta Power Equipment Corp. announced today that its deal to purchase the DELTA brand of woodworking equipment and machinery from Stanley Black & Decker closed Feb. 4, as expected. 

    Delta also announced Alicia Hicks has been named marketing manager for the organization. Additional recruiting is under way.
