ABC Supply acquires John S. Wilson Lumber

The distributor has also named a new CFO and expanded in Georgia.

Founded in 1881, John S. Wilson Lumber will transition to the ABC Supply banner.

Roofing and building products distributor ABC Supply announced that it has acquired the assets of John S. Wilson Lumber Company.

Located in West Friendship, Maryland, John S. Wilson was founded in 1881 and served as Howard County’s only full-service lumberyard.

The location will now operate as an ABC Supply location offering roofing, siding, decking, windows, and related trim products.  

“John S. Wilson Lumber Company has built generations of loyal customers by providing unparalleled service,” said Tom Kuchan, ABC Supply’s Northeast Region vice president. “We are excited that these talented associates are now part of the ABC Supply team, and we look forward to helping contractors in this growing market achieve even greater success.”

Family-owned and -operated since its founding, the company was most recently owned by brothers Hugh, Jim, and Craig O’Donnell.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Earlier this month, ABC also opened its latest new branch in Valdosta, Georgia. 

The branch is managed by Andrew Dryer who has held various roles in his nearly 10-year tenure with ABC Supply. Dryer has served as a warehouse lead, inside salesperson, and delivery services manager while at ABC.

“We are excited to bring ABC Supply’s high-quality products and expert service to the Valdosta market,” said Southeast Region Vice President Frank Marcoccio. “Andrew and his team look forward to helping the many contractors in the area achieve their business growth goals.”  

According to its website, ABC Supply operates about 18 locations in Georgia.

CFO transition

ABC Supply also recently announced the appointment of Jim Anderson as senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Anderson will succeed Todd Buehl, who has held the role since 2014 and is being promoted to CEO and chief investment officer of an affiliated investment entity. Buehl will continue to serve on ABC Supply’s board of directors, where he has been a member since 2008.

Anderson previously served as chief financial officer of both the engineered products and climate and sustainability technologies segments of Dover Corporation. He spent nearly 22 years with Dover, holding multiple finance and accounting positions with increasing responsibility.

 Prior to joining Dover, Anderson spent four years in public accounting,

Based in Beloit, Wisconsin, ABC Supply has over 900 locations across the U.S. and Canada. The company also owns Chicago-based distributor L&W Supply with more than 250 branches in 42 states.
