84 Lumber honored its top-performing associates during the company’s annual awards banquet following a record-breaking year for the privately-held pro dealer.

Held on March 11 at the Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pa., 84 Lumber honored its Manager of the Year, Area Manager of the Year, and Rookie of the Year. The special event occurred following 84 Lumber hitting record sales of $7.9 billion in 2021.

Matt Born took home Manager of the Year honors. Based at 84 Lumber’s Denton, Texas store, Born joined the company as a Manager Trainee 22 years ago in Clarksville, Ark.

After managing multiple locations for 84 Lumber, Born oversaw 87 employees, people, 26 forklifts, 23 trucks, 300 million pounds of materials shipped annually and $260 million in sales in  2021.

“For us, 2021 ended up being a fairytale situation,” Born said. “At the end of most days, we have accomplished something pretty great. Our salespeople,  our yard staff, our coordinators, these people are the best.”

“2021 was beyond anyone’s wildest dream,” Boyd said. “The managers had to work harder than ever last year to overcome the challenges of material, people, equipment. They had to get through all that while growing their sales at a great pace.”
