With the International Builders Show in Las Vegas just weeks away, National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Chairman Alicia Huey has provided her final remarks and update.

During Huey’s tenure home builders and potential buyers battled inflation and high mortgage rates. But housing starts have shown mixed signs of improvement while new home sales rose 8% in the final month of 2023.

Builder confidence also increased last month as mortgage rates began to recede. But housing affordability in the fourth quarter remained at a record low, according to the NAHB.

Huey, a Birmingham, Alabama-based custom home builder and developer with more than 30 years of experience in the home building industry, is president of AGH Homes, Inc. The firm is a custom home building company she founded in 2000.

AGH Homes specializes in high-end custom homes for buyers on individual lots, and the company also builds homes in Hoover, Alabama, and in several golf course communities in Vestavia.

Watch the video below to get Huey’s take on the current housing and home builder climate as she discusses achievements during her tenure as chairman.

At the local level, Huey was president of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders in 2013, named the association’s Builder of the Year in 2012, and inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2008. Huey was named as the Builder of the Year by the Home Builders Association of Alabama in 2014.

The outgoing leader will be succeeded as chairman this year by NAHB First Vice Chairman Carl Harris.
