Throwback Thursday: The Rogers neighborhood
The March 2015 cover story of HBSDealer featured Paul and Becky Rogers in front of their Sparta, Mich., neighborhood hardware store Rogers Do it Best Hardware.
An even bigger milestone came just this month, as the store celebrated its 90th anniversary. Channel 17 of West Michigan covered the story — watch the video here.
The store’s major 21st century renovation was the subject of a profile as well as a “From the Editor” column in the 2015 issue. The renovation required a combination of retail planning and construction magic. It converted three downtown storefronts into a combined entity, while adding 4,000 sq. ft. of selling space.
According to Becky, the process taught a valuable and general lesson: “It’s definitely worth freshening up your store,” she said. “We’re fourth generation, and we used some components that Do it Best made available to help us celebrate the history, and also brought us up to date. The new look definitely helps.”
