Throwback Thursday: Heck of a career

1/9/2019
The Jan. 16, 1989 issue of National Home Center News, the forerunner of HBSDealer, included an article about Hechinger’s Philip Mansfield.

The brief article, in its entirety, reads: “Former executive VP Philip Mansfield is flanked by Hechinger’s cochairmen Richard England, left, and John Hechinger Sr. after receiving a special lifetime achievement award from National Home Center News. The award was bestowed on Mansfield, who retired as the chain’s chief merchandising officer in late 1987, at Hechinger’s Landover, Md., headquarters during a luncheon attended by all of the company’s corporate executives and many of its employees.”

The article was sandwiched between other stories about Levolor Lorentzen emerging from bankruptcy protection, and Massachusetts-based Somerville Lumber opening its first distribution center.
