TAL Holdings announced that it has agreed in principle to acquire Miller’s Home Center with four locations in Baker City and La Grande, Oregon.

Based in Vancouver, Wash., TAL Holdings has been one of the fastest growing prodealer, home center, and hardware chains in the Pacific Northwest.

“As part of our strategic growth initiative and our commitment to help build better communities, we seek companies who align with TAL on operational excellence and core values,” said Jason Blair, CEO of TAL Holdings. “Miller’s checks these boxes and more."

Blair added, "Current owners, Steve Colkitt and Wayne Ryder, built a tremendous business over the last several decades, and we are grateful for their trust and partnership through the acquisition Process.”

Miller’s operates two home centers and lumberyards, an 18,000-square-foot retail store in Baker City and a 35,000-square-foot retail store in La Grande.

Additionally, Miller’s operates a truss plant and a cabinet manufacturing facility in Le Grande.

“Miller’s provides us with an excellent opportunity to diversify our business growth and expand into manufacturing — one of our strategic goals,” Blair added.

In 1984, Miller’s story began when Colkitt established a NAPA Auto Parts in Union, Ore.

Over the next several decades, Colkitt and Ryder, who joined as a business partner in 1995, grew the business to include hardware, cabinetry, lumberyards, and trusses.

“We are excited for this partnership and for the next phase of our history,” said Colkitt. “TAL’s long history in Eastern Oregon and their emphasis on cores values and community makes this a perfect fit. Plus, a larger organization will provide our employees additional resources and growth opportunities. This will be a beneficial partnership for all involved — employees, customers, and vendors.”

Upon completion of the acquisition, TAL will operate 29 locations including 8 in Oregon, 12 in Washington, 8 in Idaho, and 1 in Montana.

The financial terms of this deal were not disclosed.

TAL’s family of brands includes Badger Building Center, Bayview Building Supply of Elma, Best Built Builders Supply, Browne’s Home Center, Gerretsen Building Supply, Lake Chelan Building Supply, Marson and Marson Lumber, Midway Building Supply, Mount Vernon Building Center, and Tum-A-Lum Lumber.

The dealer recently unveiled its latest store: a stylish, modern store and lumberyard operating under the Marson and Marson Lumber banner.
