Starts: The regional breakdown
The Western region puts up a quadruple double in July.
The latest residential construction report from the U.S. Census Bureau showed positive trends. On a seasonally adjusted annual rate, total starts gained 3.9 percent compared to June, and single-family starts were up 6.7 percent for the month, and up 9.5 percent for the year.

The West put up the most impressive numbers, with double-digit percent gains on both a monthly and annual basis, and for both total and single-family starts —scoring a rare a quadruple double.
The Midwest fell one-tenth of a percentage point from the same statistical achievement (total starts were up 9.9 percent from June).
