While major metrics measured on the Quikrete Industry Dashboard remain steady for the rest of the month, two other indicators receive updates.
On Jan. 25, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development reported that new single-family home sales in December 2023 increased 8% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 664,000 above the revised November estimate of 615,000. The latest figure is also 4.4% above the revised December 2022 estimate of 636,00.
According to the latest Monthly New Residential Sales Report, an estimated 668,000 new homes were sold in 2023. This is 4.2% above the 2022 figure of 641,000.
A day later, the National Association Realtors said the Pending Home Sales Index climbed 8.3% to 77.3 in December. On a year-over-year basis, the PHSI increased 1.3%. An index reading of 100 is equal to the level of contract activity in 2001.
On Jan. 30, the Conference Board will release the latest Consumer Confidence Index.
On another note, AAA reports the average national price for a gallon of gasoline on Jan. 26 fell two cents to $3.10 per gallon from $3.12 per gallon one month ago.
