Poll results: The housing-starts forecast
A plurality of readers expect moderate gains in 2024
The U.S. Census Bureau’s full-year housing-starts numbers are in.
And not counting the typical up-or-down adjustments, the industry saw a decline of 9.0 percent from the 2022 total figure of 1,522,600.
Twenty-one percent of HBSDealer readers who participated in last year’s forecast survey predicted a "high single-digit decline," and they were proven correct.
Also last year, another 36 percent who predicted a "10 percent or more decline" were very close.
Given that history of skillful forecasting, the reader survey of 2024 housing starts takes on increased significance. Here are the results of the latest poll:
