For some, the takeaway from last week’s announcement that Do it Best had successfully acquired True Value Company out of bankruptcy will bring a sense of relief that liquidation — and the disruption built-in to that possible outcome— has been avoided.

For others, the events of the past several weeks will mix with anger and frustration at the distributor’s descent into bankruptcy in the first place.

For some, the dominant story is financial loss. For others, it’s business opportunity.

Some will look back at the structure-altering sale of True Value in 2018 as
• a) a watershed moment that changed everything for the worse;
• b) a wise move that bought the brand time, but couldn’t fend off the inevitable slide to bankruptcy; or
• c) some combination of a) and b).

Still others will look forward with optimism to the resurgence of the True Value brand.
