The hardware and homebuilding industry has raised more than $17 million over the decades for City of Hope, the Duarte, Calif.-based research and treatment facility that works to find cures for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.

That unified cross-industry effort will be led in 2022 by Bill Lennie, the retired Home Depot executive, who brings a unique passion and an inspirational past to the task.

Lennie, the 2022 City of Hope "Spirit of Life Award" honoree, spoke with HBSDealer editor in chief Ken Clark in this One-on-One video:
