Stat of the Week: 45% of the U.S. population that made a Kitchen & Bath purchase in 2020; up eight percentage points from 37% in 2019. Growth in penetration was driven by tub/shower surrounds, kitchen & bath accessories and toilets.

“Consumers used their increased free time during the pandemic to tackle home improvement projects, and they used home improvement projects to tackle boredom while stuck at home,” said Joe Derochowski, Home Industry Advisor, The NPD Group. “Spending more time at home, means more time cooking and cleaning, as well as opportunities to recognize necessary improvements and act on desired enhancements in the home.”

The NPD Group is a global information company offering data, industry expertise, and prescriptive analytics. NPD’s Checkout provides receipt-based information on in-store and e-commerce purchases from over 130,000 consumers, the largest omnichannel panel focused on general merchandise and foodservice.
