The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) has outlined its top legislative priorities for 2022.

The NLBMDA said it is focused on several pieces of legislation to help ensure the LBM industry remains strong and vibrant during “this time of economic uncertainty.”

Here’s how the NLBMDA breaks down the issues it holds in the highest regard:

The industry will be promoting two key themes in its discussions with members of Congress for the remainder of the year:

  • Support Affordable Housing Development
  • Address the Supply Chain Crisis

There are several ways for NLBMDA members to interact with their federal lawmakers including:

  1. Lumber Yard Tour: Invite your Members of Congress to tour your yard. Show them what your operation entails, how your company operates and what your employees do on a daily basis. Yard tours are a great way for lawmakers to meet you and your employees, hear about your company’s success and see first-hand how their votes impact your business.
  2. District Office Meeting: Meet with your Members of Congress and their staff at district office so that you can discuss the legislative priorities with them face-to-face.
  3. Town Hall: Attend a town hall or other local event hosted by a Member of Congress. These meetings may not be heavily attended and is another way for you to speak with your elected officials.
  4. Virtual Meeting: Schedule a virtual meeting with your Members of Congress.
  5. Grassroots Action Alert: If you do not have time to meet with your Members of Congress, NLBMDA is providing grassroots action links below which allows you to quickly email your congressional offices on the 2022 legislative priorities.

Grassroots advocacy by NLBMDA members is crucial to ensuring that the LBM dealer industry’s priorities are reflected in legislation passed by Congress. NLBMDA staff are happy to support you in providing the tools you need to engage your elected official during the extended break. Below you will find a complete list of bills that NLBMDA is supporting this year along with the corresponding issue briefs and grassroots action alerts.
