WoodTrac promotes green manufacturing initiatives

Archbold, Ohio-based WoodTrac Ceiling System by Sauder is promoting environmental standards, including recent energy conservation measures, mandating material recycling and air quality preservation. In addition to product production guidelines, the WoodTrac product features a unique “green” design that saves raw materials. 

According to Sauder Woodworking, more than 90% of the WoodTrac Ceiling product and packaging is made from recycled material.

“Sauder Woodworking is always striving to create products that are not only of great quality but are environmentally responsible,” said Dan Sauder, VP engineering, “We are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint, both through our products and through our manufacturing facilities.”

WoodTrac is made up of laminated medium density fiberboard (MDF), meaning it is made up of more than 90% pre-consumer recycled content. Unlike solid wood panels that only use around half of a tree, WoodTrac uses more than 95% of the actual tree product. This reduces massive amounts of lumber waste that typically goes unused, including bark and scrap materials. All wood panels used in Sauder production are “Environmentally Preferred Product” (EPP) by the Composite Panel Association.

The Sauder Woodworking Co. has also implemented its environmental sustainability efforts into its 230-acre, 4 million-sq.-ft. production facility located in Archbold, Ohio, reducing its carbon footprint by 10,000 metric tons over the next two years.
