Where the smart things are
Leviton signed a strategic partnership with Samsung SmartThings, offering a automation solution through distribution partners and the professional dealer marketplace.
The pre-packaged bundle, part number STKIT-000, includes a Samsung SmartThings Hub, a Leviton VRMX1 Z-Wave Dimmer, and a Leviton VRS15 Z-Wave Switch at a reduced price. Additionally, stocking orders of common Leviton Z-Wave attachment devices, including plug-in modules, will be offered at a special price to distributors and builders.
“For many Leviton professional customers, the SmartThings relationship represents an approachable automation solution that they can easily understand and quickly implement,” said Richard Westfall, vice president and general manager of Leviton Energy Management, Controls & Automation.
SmartThings offers an open ecosystem of devices and services in which wireless Leviton devices fit perfectly. Comprehensive integrations, thanks to Z-Wave and ZigBee chipsets, allow a wide variety of smart devices to be automated and connected devices including light switches to be voice controlled with Google Home and with Amazon Alexa-enabled products like Echo, Tap, and Dot. It also provides easy integration with wireless Leviton lighting controls, fan controls, 15A switches, plug-in load controls, heavy-duty loads controls for compressors as well as generators, sensors, and thermostats. The mesh networking technologies allow for installations in larger homes with dozens of integrated attachment devices for whole house automation.
While the strategic partnership to offer a combined Hub, Dimmer, and Switch bundle is unique, Leviton offers high quality and reliable Z-Wave products in the expansive Vizia RF + product line as popular attachments to many popular DIY, professional installed automation and smart security system manufacturers. SmartThings and Leviton have previously partnered for sales promotions, support initiatives, and co-marketing efforts. The partnership is now enhanced with a bundled product solution that’s perfect for professional builders, electricians, and integrators, allowing them to quickly make any home a smart home. Additional ongoing enhancements will include advanced certification of new products and features, additional support articles embedded into the SmartThings app, installation and setup videos for professionals on Leviton support websites, and in-person training at distributor locations.
They’ve been installing Leviton Z-Wave devices, often stand-alone or with professional grade control systems, for years,” said Richard Westfall, vice president and general manager of Leviton Energy Management, Controls & Automation.
Westfall describes the offering as a value “for customers that desire a low-cost, simple to use system complete with popular integrations including Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice control, locks, cameras, thermostats, doorbell systems, sensors and more with the Works with SmartThings program.”
“At SmartThings, we’re working to bring a diverse ecosystem of connected devices and services to users so they can create a smart home that fits within their unique lifestyle,” said Brett Worthington, general manager for Americas and Vice President of Global Business Development, SmartThings. “This partnership and bundle with Leviton, along with special pricing through Leviton’s distribution channel, brings smart home options to an even wider market, including builders and other professionals.”
