West Fraser curtails additional lumber production
Vancouver, B.C.-based West Fraser expects to implement further market-related curtailments at five of its B.C. sawmills. The company plans week-long shutdowns starting Feb. 9 at the facilities followed by temporary reduced workweeks.
Total weekly production at the affected mills is currently about 25 million board feet, while the projected temporary reduced workweeks will curtail approximately 446 million board feet on an annualized basis. These curtailments are in addition to current curtailments at the company’s Canadian facilities of about 435 million board feet on an annualized basis.
The company also intends to temporarily reduce production at several of its U.S. South sawmills by about 20 million board feet. This is in addition to the curtailment at its U.S. South facilities of about 600 million board feet on an annualized basis.
