USG sales grow 3.7% in Q3
Despite a decline in operating profit, Chicago-based USG Corp. reported gains in third quarter sales and net income.
The company’s total net sales were $795 million, up 3.7% from $767 million in the third quarter a year ago. Net income of $66 millions, was up from $62 in the year-ago quarter.
Meanwhile, higher input costs in the Gypsum and Ceilings businesses were the primary causes of a decrease in operating profits — down from $97 million to a third-quarter 2017 figure of $93 million.
President and CEO Jennifer Scanlon stated: “We had positive momentum in the third quarter, with increased net sales and wallboard volume. We are well positioned for growth as we continue to provide innovative solutions for our customers’ challenges.”
USG serves construction markets around the world through its United States Gypsum Company and USG Interiors, LLC subsidiaries and its international subsidiaries, including its USG Boral Building Products joint venture.
