USG partners with Habitat for Humanity
USG Corporation, the Chicago-based building materials manufacturer, is partnering with nonprofit Habitat for Humanity in a nationwide campaign.
Employees from USG plants in 15 cities will work with Habitat and its affiliates to build homes for families in need. The move is part of The USG Foundation’s ongoing effort to improve lives in the communities where USG does business. The USG Foundation is the company’s philanthropic arm, which provides support to non-profit organizations.
Building materials, funding, and hundreds of volunteer hours will be donated by USG, the company said.
“It is exciting to announce our partnership with Habitat for Humanity, which focuses on investing in our communities,” said Jennifer Scanlon, president and CEO of USG Corporation. “We are experts in manufacturing building products – but this partnership provides us an even more rewarding opportunity. We are able to create a more meaningful connection by working on jobsites in the neighborhoods where our employees live.”
USG said that its first home construction project is already underway in Tempe, Ariz. More than 100 members of USG’s leadership team and representatives from Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona gathered at the jobsite location for a special ceremony to commemorate the launch of the partnership. The ceremony was followed by a five-hour “Build” event with all participants rolling up their sleeves to construct a home for a local family in need, according to USG.
USG’s wholly-owned subsidiary CGC Inc. and joint venture USG Boral Building Products, have worked with Habitat for Humanity for the past several years. Since 2017, USG and CGC have collectively donated more than $300,000, in addition to in-kind materials to Habitat projects throughout North America.
