Two of industry's finest make Fortune hot list

2/20/2018

Fortune's short "Businessperson of the Year" list included not one, but two of the influential people making waves in the LBM and farm & ranch industries.

One was Matthew Missad, CEO of Universal Forest Products, Inc. The other was Gregory Sandfort, CEO of Tractor Supply Co.

The annual ranking of 50 corporate leaders recognizes executives who managed to lead their companies to the top in an uncertain economic environment.

“Concrete results. They’re what drive Fortune’s annual ranking of corporate chieftains,” states the article. “Of course, intangibles and inspiration matter. But what counts most for companies is the ability to generate cold, hard cash. What follows is an assemblage of superstars who navigated the inevitable turmoil this year and led their companies to stellar and, yes, concrete results.”

Missad, ranking at number 45, was recognized for his leadership that just resulted in the company's best third-quarter results in its history.

Sandfort came in at 33 owing to his "[cultivation of] a one-stop shopping experience; whether customers need fencing for containing cattle or riding mowers and pet supplies, they can get it all in his store."

Other peers on the list include Nike’s Mark Parker (at number one), Apple’s Tim Cook, Larry Page of Alphabet.
