True Value store turns 80

Bob Ward, owner of C.G. Morrison Co. in Alpine, Texas, recently celebrated the 80th anniversary of the business, True Value announced.

C.G. Morrison Co. includes three retail businesses: Morrison True Value Hardware, which was opened in 1928; Morrison True Value Gardens, which was added in 2001; and Lucy's Christmas Cottage, which was opened in 2004.

Ward joined C.G. Morrison in 1971 and became vice president in 1977 before buying the business in 1982.

The Saturday celebration, held at Morrison True Value Hardware, had a 1920s theme, with staff members dressed as flappers, gangsters and old-time athletes. The store sold $10,000 more in merchandise than on an average Saturday that day, True Value said.
