Troy, N.Y., hardware store to close after 94 years
Trojan Hardware, which has been a fixture in downtown Troy, N.Y., since 1915, is going out of business, according to the Times Union.
Owner George Sheehan, who has worked in the store most of his adult life and took an ownership stake in 1974, said he will retire after he sells off the current inventory. The store is expected to close by the summer.
Sheehan, whose grandfather helped launch the business in 1915, said the store had done well from the 1950s to the 1980s. In recent years, however, he wasn’t earning enough money to cover the building’s property taxes, the article said.
