Trex wins green award

2/20/2018

Trex Co. has received the 2013 Green Award from Washingtonian magazine. The annual awards recognize citizens, companies and organizations in the D.C. metro area that are working to improve the environment and encourage eco-friendly living.

The entire high-performance Trex decking portfolio -- including Trex Transcend, Trex Enhance and Trex Select -- is manufactured from more than 95% recycled content, including reclaimed wood and sawdust, as well as plastic from many common household items, such as case overwraps, sandwich/bread bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags and grocery/retail bags.

Trex also salvages and keeps more than 400 million pounds of plastic and wood scrap out of landfills each year. The company's manufacturing process uses proprietary method that recycles factory refuse back into the manufacturing line.

"It's always rewarding to be recognized for our efforts to help preserve the environment and set the standard for eco-friendly outdoor living products, but this honor is especially meaningful because our dedication to sustainability truly begins at the local level," said Ronald Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. "Trex supports community-based recycling initiatives and education, and we're proud to stand side-by-side with other environmental advocates making an impact in our own backyard."

Trex regularly seeks third-party audits to ensure that it is continually improving green practices while meeting all environmental, health and safety guidelines and industry regulations. The company is the first in the wood-alternative decking industry to receive an International Code Council Evaluation Service® (ICC-ES)* SAVE Verification for Recycled Content.
