Timberland offered for luxury homes

Stimson Lumber, a Portland Ore., forestry company, has approached Bonner County officials in Northern Idaho with plans to turn 12,000 acres of timberland into a luxury homes development, according to an article in the Seattle Times. The project, which would contain 1,110 units and two golf courses, would require a rezoning permit, the newspaper reported.

Stimson, which owns and manages 500,000 acres of timberland in Idaho Montana, Oregon and Washington, would not develop the project itself. Company CEO Andrew Miller told county officials that the development, called Clagstone Meadows, would be forestalled for a number of years until the economy turns around, the Seattle Times said.

According to its Web site, Stimson operates nine manufacturing facilities in four states, producing dimensional lumber, studs, timbers and decking, among other products. Its mills supply Doug fir, Hemp fir, Ponderosa pine and Inland Red Cedar.
