Throwback Thursday: The uniqueness of Entz-White
“The only store like it in the world.” That’s the slogan of Entz-White, a unique Phoenix home center that was profiled in the March 26, 1979 issue of National Home Center News, the forerunner of HBSDealer.
“One peek inside confirms that billing,” the article reads. “The 100,000 sq. ft. store, which includes about 50,000 sq. ft. of building materials space with a courtyard, is a unique potpourri of hardware, antiques and silver giftware – somewhere between Bloomingdale’s chic and hardware blue collar.”
In 1982, the store added a restaurant to its eclectic mix. And according to an article in the Phoenix-Business Journal, locals embraced Entz-White as a weekend hangout for browsing, antique hunting and casual dining.
The store had a great run, but it hit hard times in the late 1980s, and declared bankruptcy by the end of the 80s.
