These door colors will come knocking in 2015

2/20/2018

Color expert Kate Smith is predicting bold choices for residential door exteriors come 2015, according to Fortune Brands' Therma-Tru.

"Five of the colors that I believe will find their ways to many front doors in 2015 are bold and influenced by cross-cultural experiences, such as Bronze Tone and Tripoli Sand," said Smith, president of Sensational Color. "Then there are five other colors -- like Thyme Green and Amazon Soil -- which are more muted hues that invite us to step out of the fast flow of life to relax in our homes."

Among those in the former category are a deep orange Bronze Tone, a deeply saturated Frank Blue, tropical Nifty Turquoise, Mediterranean-inspired Tripoli Sand and deep Cranapple.

"These are expressive and playful colors, with a dash of bohemian and a pinch of sophistication," Smith said. "You'd easily find these exciting hues at a festival in Rio de Janeiro, a multi-cultural sporting event or in a piece of American folk art. Adding one of these confident colors to a front door can update any home scheme and create a joyful feeling every time someone comes through the door."

For those who opt to take a more subdued route, Smith is predicting that a dark navy Night Shade, grayish Wright Blue Mist, muted purple Drizzling Mist, mauve Amazon Soil and earthy Thyme Green will make the list.

"This soft color palette includes shades of organic green, amethyst gray, mineral mauve and a blue so deep it could have been pulled out of the cosmos or the depths of the sea," Smith added. "The colors blend sophisticated style with a desire for serenity, resulting in colors that are both comforting yet slightly indulgent."
