The great debate: clear vs multi-color lights
Do you go with clear or multi-color lights on the Christmas tree? How about the outdoor holiday lighting?
Despite debates, The Home Depot says clear or white Christmas lights are the preferred style throughout the country by nearly 20% overall.
That doesn’t mean multi-colored lights don’t have a strong foothold in some parts of the country.
Texas and the surrounding states buy the most clear lights, according to Home Depot. In general, their popularity runs along the South and East, tracking up the Appalachian Mountains to New England. In these areas, clear lights make up approximately two-thirds of all lights sold.
Multi-colored lights are most popular west of the Rocky Mountains—spanning from New Mexico up to Washington. In these areas, the color divide is closer to a 50-50 split.
“Icicle” style lights remain popular in south Florida. The Gulf area of Texas is close behind, with western regions rounding out the top of the list.
Other holiday lighting trends revealed by The Home Depot include shoppers in the Gulf region of Texas buying the most lights overall. Surrounding areas in Oklahoma and Arkansas compete for second. Also, the Southwest buys nearly double the amount of overall lights compared to the middle of the country.
After Texas, shoppers in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and spanning up to the Northeast prefer clear lights most. The region covering Arizona up to Washington, along with the northern plains states, buy multi-colored lights at the highest rates.
The Home Depot also recently shared which types of holiday decorations are the most popular across the nation.
