TAL Holdings expands in Oregon
TAL Holdings LLC, an 8-unit pro dealer based in Vancouver, Wa., said it has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Gerretsen Building Supply Co. in Roseburg, Ore.
Gerretsen will begin operations as part of the TAL family of companies on Feb. 4. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"This acquisition is an excellent addition to our company. The Roseburg market fits into our growth strategy,” said M. David Dittmer, CEO of TAL Holdings. “Gerretsen is the top supplier of building materials in the market area they serve.”
Because of their very strong brand recognition, the acquired dealer will continue to operate under the name of Gerretsen Building Supply, Dittmer said while noting that “the Roseburg community is similar to other markets served by TAL Holdings.”
TAL Holdings presently operates 3 divisions including Tum-A-Lum Lumber, founded in 1906, serving the Hood River, The Dalles, and Pendleton markets in Oregon; Marson and Marson Lumber, founded in 1955, serving the Leavenworth, Wenatchee, Chelan and Cle Elum markets of Washington ; and Browne’s Home Center, founded in 1947, serving the San Juan Islands of Washington.
“We are anxious to expand our footprint into this growing market,” Dittmer said about the move into Roseburg.
Gerretsen was founded in 1923 by Joe Denn and William Gerretsen. The company is still family owned and operated by descendants of William Gerretsen.
Gerretsen, like the TAL companies, operates full-service lumberyards, serving the professional builder as well as the retail customer.
“Gerretsen has a strong, experienced employee group. Their years of experience in our industry make their location the place to go for building solutions,” Dittmer said.
