J.W. Jung Seed Co. in Madison, Wis., is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. This True Value Home & Garden Showplace, which started as a one-man operation in 1907, currently produces 8 million mail-order catalogs each year, operates five retail locations and employs more than 400 people. The company is still owned and operated by the daughter and grandsons of founder John William “J.W.” Jung.
The Costello family of Long Island, N.Y., is opening another Ace Hardware store—this time in North Massapequa. This marks the 13th Ace location in the fold (they also have one Do it Best store). The ground-up store measures 15,000 square feet and will feature lighting and flooring in addition to core hardware departments.
Lorleberg True Value in Oconomowoc, Wis., celebrated 137 years in business in July. The store has been owned and managed by just two families throughout its history, including current owner Jeff Burchard, whose father took over the store about 30 years ago. To commemorate the anniversary, the store threw a party featuring popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs and lots of 99-cent specials.
