In-store and online 3D printing has arrived at Orchard Supply
Thanks to the efforts of Lowe's Innovation Labs, Orchard Supply stores will soon be equipped with in-store and online 3D printing.
The service will allow customers to design and produce the items they need, whether they're looking for hard-to-find replacement parts or something unique for their home.
The technology allows customers to customize the color, shape and material of products, as well as scan items to create 3D models for printing. Products can be printed in-store in plastic, or custom-ordered in alternative materials including metal and ceramic, which can be shipped directly to the customer.
"The home is very personal and 3D printing gives homeowners unprecedented access to build items that reflect their individuality," said Kyle Nel, executive director of Lowe's Innovation Labs. "Until now, it's been hard for the average consumer to benefit from this technology because of the cost and complexity, so we are bringing customers an approachable and affordable customization experience."
The program rolled out April 29 at Orchard Supply's Mountain View, California location, as well as online at Osh.com.
It was also developed in partnership with Authentise, a supplier of secure distribution tools for 3D printing.
"Our partnership with Authentise enabled us to rapidly develop 3D solutions in a way that is core to home improvement and positions Lowe's at the forefront of the digital manufacturing revolution," Nel said.
