This week’s HBSDealer Stat of the Week: 50. That’s the number of Stanley Black & Decker manufacturing and distribution workers – out of some 25,000 around the world -- who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

That stat was shared May 1, along with Stanley’s first quarter sales and earnings declines.

For the total company of about 58,000 employees, There have been 100 employees testing positive for COVID-19. “A testament to our safety culture and the importance we place on protecting our people,” said Jim Loree, CEO.

“We've had only a few locations out of our 100 plus factories and DCs with any notable spread, although we have had one where nine cases were detected within a 12-day period,” said Loree. “We immediately and voluntarily effected a temporary shutdown of that facility for sanitizing and sent the majority of employees home for a mandatory 14-day quarantine.”

Loree said that thing could change quickly. “This is a day-to-day management process,” he added. However, we can say at this point, so far, so good.”
