A37-year-old Canadian man was fined $200 in a New Brunswick provincial court on Jan. 27 for stealing a shirt from a Sears store, according to an article in the Daily Gleaner.
Andrew Larlee, a foundation contractor, was on his way to meet with a customer when he stopped at a Sears store and selected a shirt from the menswear department. After changing into the shirt in the dressing room, Larlee walked out of the store without paying for the $29.95 item, according to the newspaper.
The defendant said he didn’t want to show up at the meeting in the dirty shirt he was wearing. He didn’t pay for the shirt because he couldn’t find his wallet. “It was a stupid thing, spur of the moment,” Larlee told the court.
