Sears launches new service provider
ServiceLive.com, a new subsidiary of Sears Holdings, has launched an “online marketplace” for homeowners seeking repair and remodeling services. Loosely modeled after Priceline.com, a Web site that allows travelers to bid on hotels and airfare, ServiceLive.com encourages consumers to name their price for specific home-improvement jobs, along with the desired appointment time. Homeowners then upload funds to their ServiceLive account.
Plumbers, electricians, roofers, remodelers and other pre-screened contractors can then accept the terms of the job and “win” the bid. Service providers are paid from the ServiceLive account when the project is completed.
Founded in 2007, ServiceLive has spent the last year recruiting and conducting background checks on a variety of service providers across the country, according to the announcement. Offerings also include automotive, computer repairs, landscaping, flooring, HVAC and appliance installations.
